Cologne-based producer, songwriter and trained jazz pianist Simon Ebener-Holscher is the mastermind behind Moglii and over the last three years, he’s been cultivating his organic electronic sound with a futuristic pop edge. It makes complete sense therefore that Novaa (who you may remember for her naturalistic electro-pop creations ‘Club Paradise’ or ‘Almond Eyes’) was called upon for new track ‘Lone Wolf’ with her velveteen vocals. Following a wild growl stitched within the multi-textural introduction, we’re dropped into the mindset of a lonesome, isolated protagonist through the lines, “You’re sweet as cake, but I ‘aint hungry, / Not today, / I keep the plate full of choices never made.” These words come directly from Novaa’s own experience of a relationship that she sacrificed far too much for. It was at the peak of her emotional turmoil that Moglii reached out with an idea to collaborate. Thus, ‘Lone Wolf’ was born. The human complexity is portrayed through the lone wolf allegory of vulnerability and emancipation, and in turn, this is mirrored by different sound elements: digital, distorted synth drones throughout the verse meet soaring analogue planes. As Moglii shares, “Both aspects are profoundly rooted in the human being. We are encouraged not to fear loneliness and to seek inspiration from the “lone wolf” – who naturally embodies all these emotions.” - Hannah Thacker
